House of Trembling Madness

The House of the Trembling Madness on Stonegate in York is a renowned and distinctive bar and bottle shop. Housed in a Grade II* listed building, parts of which date back to a Norman house from around 1180 AD, it offers a unique, medieval-inspired atmosphere.

The bar, located on the first floor above a well-stocked craft beer shop, is famous for its quirky taxidermy collection, exposed timber beams, and low ceilings. It boasts an extensive and carefully curated selection of craft beers, ciders, and spirits, with many available to drink on-site or take away. Food is also served, with a focus on locally sourced produce and sharing platters designed to complement the beer. The establishment is known for its intimate size and encourages a sociable, "budge up and share a pew" environment.
