Merchant Adventurers' Hall
The Merchant Adventurers' Hall in York is a magnificent medieval guildhall, constructed between 1357 and 1361. It is a Grade I Listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument, renowned as one of Britain's most significant buildings of its type and period.
Originally built by a powerful fraternity of men and women who risked their wealth in overseas trade, known as the Company of Merchant Adventurers of the City of York, the Hall served as their base. It features a stunning timber-framed Great Hall, a historic undercroft, and a chapel, showcasing remarkable medieval architecture.
Today, the Hall remains the home of the Company of Merchant Adventurers and operates as a museum, offering insights into York's entrepreneurial past. It also houses a café and is a popular venue for events, especially weddings, due to its historic charm and spacious rooms.
